What does your week look like these days? Do you commute to work, or do you work from home? How many hours do you spend consuming media? How much time do you dedicate to English?
I'm not here to judge! We just HAVE to find the time to practice everyday.
The Importance of Daily Practice
I'm not talking about intensive six-hour courses daily (although, these are proven to help too). What we need is consistency and commitment. I didn't become fluent (or confident) until I was forced to practice every day.
Assessing Your Schedule: When will you make time for practicing? Consider it your new hobby. Can you give up some time usually spent on social media? Can you listen to a podcast while you commute?
Setting Goals: Set specific, achievable goals. What progress do you want to see in one month, three months, one year? I want to be able to clearly introduce myself, my work experiences, and my qualifications is a great goal. I want to be more comfortable in English is hard to measure.
Adapting Your Daily Life: Start by finding five minutes every day to practicing "producing" the language. This can be written or spoken. Copy the style of a TV show you like, speak about your favorite things, anything that interests you. The goal is not to practice perfect grammar, but to get your brain into the habit of thinking in English.
Encourage yourself to plan a little, find materials, TV shows, music, etc., that you like. No textbooks required (or recommended!).
